It sits on the glass and pushes a stream across the display so waste stays off the sand and still corners break up.

Hydor’s Koralia Nano page says the pump is for aquariums only and cannot be used as a filter pump.

Sicce’s Voyager Nano page says the unit can raise circulation and help a filter work. It still does not add filter media of its own.

Point the outlet along a long wall, not at a fish’s resting spot. Aim across open water so the stream turns before it hits plants.

A powerhead is not your filter

A canister or hang-on-back pulls water through media, while a powerhead only stirs the display. You still need a filter that lists its own flow.

  2. Pick a powerhead whose listed GPH is at least 10 times tank gallons

  4. Keep the powerhead stream off the filter intake so it does not starve the media

Is a powerhead the same thing as a filter pump?

No, a powerhead is not a filter pump. Hydor’s Koralia Nano page says the pump cannot be used as a filter pump. A powerhead moves display water, while a filter pump pushes that water through media.

Can I use one of these pumps in a planted tank?

Yes, if you aim the stream along the glass and not into the substrate. Soft stems blow over when the jet hits the root zone. Start with the lowest listed flow that still clears 10 times your gallons.
